The cheapest medicine

In our modern commercialized world,
it seems that we usually overlook simple,
yet vital things.
Did you know our bodies are

75% water?
Water helps the body regulate temperature, transport of oxygen to cells and maintain muscle tone.
Hydration keeps joints lubricated, prevents colds and flu, and prevent kidney stones...don't ask me how I know that.
Trust me, it does.
You really need to drink at least eight 8oz servings of water a day. Yes, that's 64 oz, aka 1/2 gallon a day.
If you are physically active (and if you drink coffee and/or alcohol) drink more.
I try to drink 3 to 4 quarts a day.
It might sound like a lot, but it's not.
Dehydration can cause physical health problems and mental fatigue...
Dehydration doesn't just make you feel thirsty. Researchers from Tufts University say that even mild dehydration is associated with feelings of anger, depression, and confusion.
Hydrating your body makes you look younger
"Water naturally plumps skin, fills in fine lines and wrinkles, and boosts a lackluster complexion."
Drinking water can help you drop pounds. Adults who drink two 8oz glasses of water before breakfast, lunch, and dinner eat between 75 to 90 fewer calories during each meal.
So, drink water
- as soon as you get up each morning.
- throughout the day (especially during hot days).
 - as you exercise.
- when you are sick.

Most of all,
never wait until you are thirsty to drink water.

Stay Frugal,
Daniela

Daniela, I tend to do great getting enough water in the hotter months of the year, but when it's cold out I find I have to force myself to drink plain water, as I prefer hot herbal and green teas instead.

Dearest Daniela,
This is so true! I need to drink a lot of water too; keep a bottle on my night table for even drinking during the night. It is also the most healthy drink in itself. I've never been drinking any soft drinks; just water.
Hugs to you,
Mariette

I'm the worst at drinking water, but I do drink a lot of tea. Does that count?? Regardless of the answer, I needed this reminder so badly.

XOXO,
Meredith

You are SO right! This is very good advice. I often forget to drink water during the day until I'm thirsty. I know that is not good! You've made some very good points about why it's so important. I think I will follow your advice today!! Thanks for the reminder.

Good Afternoon Daniela, Gosh, I know you are right, but my problem is that when it is cold, during the winter, it is hot drinks I prefer. So as the weather begins to warm (which I hope will be soon) I will take your advice and drink more water....I will try and continue this throughout the winter aswell.
Best Wishes
Daphne

All so true and I can say that to the mister till I turn blue. He still hardly ever drinks water.

You are so right, Dani! I need to drink more water. Seriously. This past summer I tried flavoring my water with fruit slices and it was so good (and easier to drink more), but I fell off the wagon. Thanks for the reminder. :-)

Absolutely!! I'm a water girl, and am constantly drinking throughout the day. I've discovered that it really helps my body function better in many ways. I've gotten used to the frequent pit stops. lol. A side effect of my age. Great post!

I like water! Haven't been drinking as much water lately, but I try to keep some handy even in the car.

Well said and yet I can look up, see the clock say 2, and realize I might have had a couple of glasses of water since waking! Yikes!! I love drinking water but the habit is hard to form for me. And I have gout!! Double yikes! Thanks for this post. Now ~ I have to go and get a glass of that stuff... lol!
