The Perfect Hard Boiled Egg

I am the only one who always had trouble peeling hard boiled eggs?
Well, here is how to make this process easier.
First, start with "old" eggs...not eggs that have gone bad, just eggs that have been in your fridge for

2-3weeks.
This will help during the peeling process.
Now, put the eggs in a pot and cover with cold water.
Bring to a boil (without lid),
when boiling, set the timer to 3min.
When the time is up, remove the pot from the hot burner and place a lid on the pot.
Now set the timer to 8min.
When time is up,
drain hot water and run some cold water over the eggs.
Transfer the eggs to a plate and let sit for about 30min.
And now it's peeling time.
Easy.

Happy peeling.

Daniela

Hmm I will have to try this. I have done the roll technique where you roll the eggs to crack the shell, but last time I did it I got eggs shell bits and tore up my eggs. So time for a new method. Of course patience isn't my strong point and 30 minutes is a long time. haha

I just peal them under cold running water and the shells come off really easy. Just another way to try. I love all the tips I get from the ladies I follow!
Thank you!

I will try this! I have never tried that exact combination of cooking, sitting, cooling :) Old eggs definitely makes a difference I know!

You are right- the best part of the trick is not to use fresh eggs! I sometimes "roll" them and they deshell easily that way, too- xo Diana

Good tip. I didn't think about the age of the eggs. You can also try putting about a tbsp of bakin soda in the water for the last 2-3 minutes of boiling. Wash the egg off in cold water and the shell comes off in two pieces. Thanks

I don't have as much problem with peeling them but knowing how long to cook them for the desired consistency I want. I learned a trick from Martha Stewart to peel them easier which involves placing the eggs in ice water after they're cooked. Then you whack the side of the egg with a blunt knife and the shell should basically come off in halves. Very easy! I think we can all use tips on how to make this process easier especially with Easter this weekend, right?! LOL! Thanks for sharing your tips.

Great post and info! And an overcooked egg will have a greenish color inside, yuck!
