How to prepare strawberries

This is the most delicious way to prepare strawberries.
This is how my mom
(and lots of other Italians)
prepare strawberries.

I have had many, many people asking me what's the key ingredient(s) to make them taste so good.

Start with

1lb of fresh strawberries,
and cut in 1/2 or 1/4 (depending on size).

Add one tablespoon of sugar.

Mix the juice of 1/2 fresh lemon.

Add a splash of white wine (about a shot size)
Mix all and put in the fridge for a couple of hours.
Don't make this the day before you are going to eat them, because the strawberries will get "soggy" the next day (still perfect if you are going to eat them over an angel cake/shortcake).

We eat them topped with whipped cream,
over angel food cake or
over vanilla ice cream.
Yum.
Happy 4th.

Stay Frugal,
Daniela

I love strawberry shortcake! I haven't tried using lemon and white wine with them. I've only used sugar and water together.

I don't eat sugar, so my strawberries pretty much go from basket, to water for cleaning, to my mouth. :) I bet yours are delicious. Happy 4th. xo Laura

You got me with the wine. I will have to keep it away for my girls though.

Dearest Daniela,
You make me mouthwater and remembering the delicious strawberries we enjoyed in Italy. Yes, lemon juice does make a difference and so does a bit of white wine.
Wishing you and yours a lovely 4th of July!
Hugs,
Mariette

You surprised me. I figured I knew what you were going to do right off the bat, put balsamic vinegar over the berries. But nope, now I've got to try this. YUM!

This is new to me too. We do the sugar, but not the lemon and wine. I might would like to try the lemon juice. Definitely yummy over pound cake or vanilla ice cream. :-)
