Birth story

I don't usually share much personal stuff on my blog, but I thought this would make a fun story, since when my first son was born, a year ago today,
I was in the process of finishing this bathroom makeover!
Enjoy!

(Written last year)
So...you probably know that I had been in a crazy frenzy of remodeling and building lately, and yesterday was no different. Here I was cutting wood and nailing mirror frames together until almost dinner time, when I realized I was having somewhat regular contractions (about 10 min apart) around 6:30pm...but I was in denial...10 days from estimated due date, and intense wood cutting could have been the cause of great
back pain at this point in pregnancy, right? wrong! Little man Joshua was preparing to make the entrance into this world. Just yesterday after going to church, Rachele was praying he would come out soon, "maybe even tonight". Well, that girl could have not been more dead on!

Continuing on, about 4 hours into "active labor",  RN and I (mostly I) decided (based on past labor history) to call Beulah our Doula and the midwife and make our way to the hospital. And here we were again, 4cm, 10:30pm, I was officially categorized as "woman in labor" (you think?...it wasn't back pain from cutting wood just hours earlier)... labor picking up speed, laboring tub had just been cleaned and I was allowed to experience the power of hot water for about an hour. Then transition time begins, I feel the urge to push, they tell me not to, I was only 4 cm an hour 1/2 earlier...they have to check...verdict: your baby is coming out, his head is in the mattress...so rush the midwife in there, water breaks (targeting whomever is back there!) as I am pushing little man out. He comes out head first with and arm in there, Statue of Liberty style!

He is out in less than a handful of pushing, I get the nickname of "rock star" for pushing so hard, RN gets to cut the umbilical cord, Joshua is a nursing champion and we are just a happy bunch (minus the pain). Again, an INTENSE 6 hour labor made possible thanks to my wonderful team: RN superb husband and coach, Beulah wonderful supporting doula, and Lori expertise midwife. I could not have done it without you!
WELCOME TO OUR FAMILY BABY JOSHUA.
"Be strong and courageous (...)  for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.” Joshua 1:9 (Bible)

Stay Frugal,
Daniela

I'm behind reading blogs. Happy Birthday Joshua! I can't believe he is already a year old. Your labor sounds like a good one to only last 6 hrs. Of course, your body probably remembered what to do since this was baby #3. It usually get faster with each child. Watch-out if there's a #4!
