What do you think it is and what would you do with it?

A few months ago a friend asked me if I wanted this.

It was free.
She got it from a garage sale,
but never got around to use it.
She finally decided to just burn it,
but checked with me first to see if I wanted it.

Truthfully I have no idea of what this was used for.
Maybe it was a library cards' holder?
Maybe it used to hold collectible items?
The openings are about 4"x6"
Thing is,
what would you do with this?
It's heavy.
Overall measures approximately 3'x4'

Stay Frugal,
Daniela

What it is, is AWESOME!!! I'd have about a hundred uses for it. So much potential.

If it were me, I'd probably use it in my basement storage area to hold things. Are the shelves sturdy and do any of them come out for more space if needed?

Do you have a bunch of tiny collectables that need to be displayed?

I would take some boards off make it less shelves and paint it. put vase with flowers here , a book there , a nice collectable there, another book here, maybe a green ivy there...
GET ME?

I've seen this kinda thing used as a room divider. I'd paint it... and I like the idea already given to remove some shelves here and there to allow for some larger cubbies. but if that's not a good option- would still look good. A grouping of collectibles with a common theme or color will really pop on here after some light paint. Would be great at the back door for school supplies, mail, etc. do you have a booth somewhere? Great display piece too.

Love this piece! It would make for a great way to store dishes or china. Very nice gift!

Dearest Daniela,
In your photo the openings resemble a lot bigger than just 4 x 6 inches...
What to store inside? Socks... If that is the true size there is not that much space.
Looking forward with what for idea you came up with!
Hugs,
Mariette

Hmm. What an interesting piece. At first, I was thinking shoes but you'd have to have some small feet to get your shoes to fit in there :)

Lay it flat (back of piece on a tabletop) and use it to store anything from price tags for items you'ew selling to jars of paint, tin cans filled with paint brushes, colored pencils, or store spools of twine, hanging hooks, etc. in it. I have a smaller version that I tote around with me when I go to my antiques booth where I keep everything from my homemade tags and colored pens I use on the tags, to s-hooks that I use to hang pictures, to glue sticks and E6000 tubes, to magnets to well, anything I need to 'repair' hang or reprice the things in my booth.

Or add legs to the back so that it actually IS a table for supplies - you can alphabetize cards, you can store photos, or fabric, carpet and tile samples, or different sized nuts and bolts, etc.

Just a thought.

Cool! I would paint it, and either use it to store a collection of small items, or use it as a table top, adding some sort of legs to the bottom and securing a piece of heavy glass to the top - you could use the cubby holes to show family memorabilia - to tell a story.

I worked in an office that had something similar to hold mail for out of town crews to pick up. I would probably either use it in a pantry or to store craft supplies. Big surprise right?!

if the openings really are 4x6 and I had a storage room to put it in, I'd make a pantry out of it.. I ould definately make that piece work at my house. most pantries aretoo deep and ya cant see
what you have till you dig towards the back, this pieces would allow for stuff to be single file and viewable at a glance.. love it~!

I would leave it or just give it a good cleaning and rub some tonged oil on the piece.

I have something a bit like it, mine was a drawer in previous life. I have hung it on the wall and am displaying miniatures in it. Have thought about putting different pretty paper at the back of each little room, that would be lovely l think. A fun piece :-). Pam x

I am going to guess it was used for mail.
I like the idea of using it for a Lego display or other kids projects.
Fun...and as always I am looking forward to your ideas. :-)

Love it!! Maybe lay it on it's side, use in an entry as a catch all for shoes, decor, etc. Maybe a craft storage unit, or in a bathroom for storage - could mount some shutter doors over part of it, remove some of the shelves to make larger shelves, so many things!! Please show us what you do!! Have fun!
