Desk Makeover: paint, stain and dropcloth

I bet you have some piece of furniture that you have moved around your house plenty of times, and that you have used it with a different purpose.
Well, here is mine.
This desk was passed down to my husband by his father.
We used it as a desk for a couple of years, it had a dark stain to it.
Then baby #1 came along and we needed a changing table.
So I sanded the desk to the bare wood (minus
some stain left in the crevices) and gave it a clear coat a polyurethane.
Now, I was ready to use this again as a desk, my desk.
I painted it white, leaving the dark stain in the crevices.
For the top I wanted to do something unusual, so I measured, cut and sew a piece of dropcloth and (after ironing it) added to the top wood piece.

I used hot glue to attach it to all four sides.
And here it is.
***for dusting, I just use a hand vacuum***

Stay Frugal,
Daniela

Oh wow. This desk has had a few lives, huh? I love the latest transformation. I wouldn't have thought to add a drop cloth to the top but it looks lovely.

What a clever idea for the top of the desk.

Yes, I too have pieces that have been in every single room in the house. One of those pieces is now on the patio. Who knows where it will go next?

It looks great and I like that the dark stain that is left gives it character.

I love it! I never would have thought of using a drop cloth on the top out of fear of constant stains.
