Healthy Apple Crisp

There are some desserts that say Fall in special ways.
Those desserts are usually made with pumpkins or apples.

Today I am going to share with you this easy and healthy apple crisp.
Compared to most recipes, my apple crisp uses less butter, less sugar and whole wheat flour.

So here are the ingredients:

4 large apples sliced
1/3 cup brown sugar
1/4 cup sugar
1/2 cup wheat flour
1/2 cup old-fashioned oats
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1/4 cup unsalted butter at room temperature

The directions are easy:

Preheat the oven to 425°F, and grease a 8x8 inch baking pan.
In a bowl, make the topping by mixing together the brown sugar, sugar, flour, oats, cinnamon, nutmeg and butter.
Cut the butter into chunks, and mix it into the mix with your fingers until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
Arrange the apple slices in the baking pan,
and sprinkle with the topping mixture.

Bake for 15 minutes on 425°F, then reduce the oven temperature to 350°F, and bake for another 35 minutes as the crisp is starting to brown on the top

This is such an easy, healthy and delicious dessert.
***my rule about apple skin on or off: if the apples are organic, leave the skin on***

Stay Frugal,
Daniela

Oh- That sounds delicious and a lot healthier than the recipe I use. Love that you leave the peels on the apples, too- xo Diana

I love anything with apples in it! That looks delicious. I never make anything like that because I'm the only one that will eat it. Can you believe that Jimmy doesn't like cooked fruit??? Although, he has been known to eat a fried apple or peach pie from time to time.
