Interior Design and Education

Funny how life evolves in ways you never thought possible.
I went to College and graduated with and Interior Design Art degree...then because of (mainly) my CAD knowledge, I was offered a position as Graduate Assistant and a full ride scholarship for a Master Degree.
I decided to pursue a MSE (Master of Science of Education).
What I did not know at that time, is that one day I would be using both degrees at the same time.

As of tomorrow,
I will be officially starting (home)school with my oldest daughter, while continuing with my never ending projects, home improvement and decorating on a budget.
Yes, to complete my Interior design degree I had to take Marketing and Business related classes.

What do you know? Those came handy after all. LOL
I am looking forward to this new season in life, and so is she.
Homeschool is such a controversial topic depending on who you ask to.
Homeschooling for us is going to allow me to implement some of the Italian school system: the way Italian schools do testing (both written essays and oral in every subject) and interdisciplinary subjects and activities.
Also for my children the opportunity to continue to speak and write in both English and Italian.
It will definitely be (for both of us) a learning and bonding experience on a different level.
Those decisions did not come lightly.
All I have to say, is that I have done my homework and decided this was the best fit for our family.
So cheers to this new season.

Stay Frugal,
Daniela

Wow! I didn't know you had your masters degree! That's wonderful! I have looked into home school for Will as well, but believe keeping him in school (with an IEP) is working fine for now. I worry about him socially, so I don't want to remove him from school if I don't have to. At least your kids are close in age and can be social together at home. Will doesn't have that. I can say that socially, home school is the biggest change for most kids compared to those that go to regular school. Just keep them involved in things to help broaden them in that area. Jimmy has worked with some people that were home schooled and can easily see a difference! Good luck to you with home schooling. Your kids are bright, so they should do well.

I wish you the best. I know many parents who have debated this decision, but as you say, you have to decide what is best for your family. I wish you all the best in your home-schooling journey. If I can help in any way, please let me know. :-)

p.s. Is there a home-schooling group in your area? Like a group of other homeschoolers where you might be able to do things together (i.e. field trips, sharing skills, etc.)? One of my other blogger friends does something like that. Just curious.

Good luck! I've always wondered about home schooling...but think my oldest would perish from lack of...kids. :)

So excited for your family, you will love it Dani :) Get lots of support too, I about burned out the first year because of the expectations I put upon myself. Mostly because I think I was concerned about proving to myself (and anyone else watching) that we were on track. I let that go , we have a very flexible schedule now and I enjoy it again. We home school not to keep our children from something, but to add to their education. God bless you !! xo Tanya :)

Good for you! I never trusted myself to homeschool, so I figured it wasn't right for me, but I have the utmost respect for those who do!

I learned something else about you!

Best of luck home schooling. I am sure, as with everything else you do, you'll do great.

Now, that explains your creativity as your projects amaze me.

Good for you in deciding to home school. I removed my boys from public school when they were 9 and 12 and only wish I had done it sooner. While my reason was the failure of the school to meet my children's educational needs, I can see the benefit of incorporating your native language into your daughter's studies. I am positive you will love every minute of it as I did.
