The real Italian food

Today I am going to show you what Italians really eat.
(yes I took pictures of food)
Forget about the chicken
(so popular in Italian restaurants here in the States),
 forget about spaghetti and meatballs
(yes both are part of the Italian cuisine, but

are not eaten together...ever).
Italians eat a lot of
seafood, given that Italy is mostly surrounded by water.

Meats are usually grilled
(especialy during the warmer months)

like the bread used for making bruschetta (pronounced like Bruce-ketta).
Obviously pizza is a must try if you are ever in Italy.

It really has a different taste from what you usually find here.

But let me tell you,
even if you are not a fish eater,
if you ever get to travel to Italy, give the seafood a try...you don't want to miss out tasting a grilled octopus.

Stay Frugal,

Dearest Daniela,
Oh, all those Americans here in the US that 'think' they taste authentic Italian food; they are so wrong. Having worked and lived near Venice for about one year we did feast often in Jesolo at a special seafood restaurant. Frutti di mari would easily lead to 17 different types of the catch of the day. Octopus is great indeed!
We are so fortunate for having Maria from Bolzano here in town with her authentic Italian food at her Ristorante da Maria...
Hugs,
Mariette

PS on my FB Mariette VandenMunckhof-Vedder you can see some great idea made out of pallets to lounge on and watching cinema!

Does it always make you laugh what people in US consider "Authentic Italian"?? :) Because that's how I feel all the time :) I love sea food...But not mussels...and I'm not sure about octopus...:)

That's so true! Nothing like traveling and enjoying the real taste of each country! I would love to try the grilled octopus.

I've never tried Octopus before. Not sure it looks very appetizing though. LOL! I'll take your word for it that it's good. I like most seafood though. Frankly, that pizza looks pretty darn good!

Yum. I am a fairly picky eater but I do like fried octopus. Maybe I need to travel to Italy.

Isn't that interesting? We Americans have our own versions that we call Italian food. haha. But I love seafood and brushchetta. Delish!

I'm pretty sure I'd starve in Italy. I even live in Florida and don't eat seafood. So it would be a highly unlikely I'd try octopus. I'm pretty sure I'd have no problem eating dessert though! :)

I'm always curious about what people from various cultures actually eat as opposed to what the American versions of the dishes are. I say that if I ever have the opportunity to travel outside the country, I want to eat with a family to see what it's really like. These foods look quite tasty.
