Breadbox, the art of homemade gifts

Speaking of homemade gifts,
I am going to share with you one of my most favorite homemade gift that I have received.
The breadbox.
It's made with olive tree wood,
Mediterranean olive trees,
that belong to my family.
The breadbox is a smaller replica of the
traditional breadbox of the town where my dad was born and raised, in Southern Italy.
This piece was made by my Zio (uncle) Mimmo, my dad's younger brother, and it was given to us as wedding gift.
This is what I call a beautiful, meaningful yet practical gift.
I love the details...can you imagine the hours spent in picking, measuring, cutting, gluing, sanding, waxing the wood?
The breadbox will ALWAYS have a special place in my heart.
 Look at the wood grain.
On the bottom it even has the year it was made and a sweet note to us, written with a wood burning pen.
Homemade gifts might not cost the giver much money,
but surely "cost" the giver much time and love in making it.
You bet this piece will never be tossed out, and I can assure you that you will never find anything exactly like this one.
This is in the kitchen to stay.

Stay Frugal,

It's truly unique and I love that it was handmade by a family member. I don't blame you a bit for cherishing it and enjoying for a life time. That was the intent behind it and it looks like you're taking great care of it! I know you make a lot of homemade breads too, so a homemade bread box is perfect for that.

That is definitely heirloom quality, just on sentiment on the bottom. The hand made wood from Italy, you just couldn't get that anywhere. Hope you, your kids, your grandkids,,,,, will appreciate how special it truly is.
