I really like lanterns, big and small alike, so I got thinking and built one myself.
I used 2 tomatoes' poles that have been hanging out in our veggie garden for about five years.
(and I just picked what I think will be our last tomatoes of the season...tonight the temperature should drop to 29 degrees)
I measured and cut the wood and started building.
Turned out that I only had a few inches left over...like 2 inches. Good thing I didn't mess up any cuts!
I nailed the wood to the bottom and top wood scraps,
then added the horizontal wood pieces and glued it with super glue.

Now I want to make more!
...and I probably will :)
This is obviously NOT a lantern to be used with real candles...but with little children I don't light candles that much,if any.
Few months back, I just happened to find two real wax candles
that are battery operated...they even flicker and have a 4 hour timer...$2 per candle, manager special at Kroger!
I didn't even now they sold candles at Kroger.

Really cute. I always look at the lanterns at stores like Pier 1 and I love them but can't justify that much money to just hold a candle. Your's are fantastic! Going to have to keep this is mind when spring comes and we can sit outside again.

Loving your lanterns. I can see painting them like zinc and aging down the chicken wire before putting it in. You'd have a Restoration Hardware look-a-like for cheap.

I've been thinking of making similar lanterns out of a bunch of those IKEA wood frames I have had stored. Just put five together with the top open and use for candles.
