The Infamous Scallop

Since we first moved into our home, there was one thing in particular (among many) that I just could not stand at:
the scallop trim above the sink!

It's just not my style, that's all!
The infamous scallop above the sink

One of the first project we tackled (6 years ago) was remodeling our kitchen...but the scallop was untouched :(
I have tried to figure out a way to either take it off or cover it up, but was never successful until...

...NOW!

First of all, I could not remove the trim without taking the chance to ruin the upper cabinets and the crown moulding...the scallop was made to last :)
and it did for the last 45 years or so.

My only hope was to give it a more updated look, so I got busy and cut several pieces of leftover trim.

Three long pieces of flat trim and the curved trim on the bottom. Caulk, prime, 2 coats of paint.
And voilĂ

The scallop went bye bye!

This project didn't cost me anything.
I just used leftover trim we already had from previous projects and leftover paint.
It wasn't a big messy projects, and it took a couple of hours from start to finish!

Now I feel MUCH better when I look at this
(which is a lot of times during the day).

Updating a look does not always take a lot of money
(or effort)!

Stay Frugal,

I remember growing up with some of that scalloped trim above the kitchen sink too! I agree, that really dates a house. I like the change you made to it.
