Make a reusable wall stencil for .50cents

I have never been big on wall stencils...
I think the main reason is that I am not patient enough to do an entire wall, and not as a perfectionist to make sure everything looks straight and...perfect.
But I have a friend who wanted to do some stenciling.
She didn't wanted to pay the price for the stencil she liked...a whopping $45.
Yes, apparently some stencils are pretty expensive. $45 for a square piece of plastic.
So, I made a very similar stencil on the computer,
printed out in sections,
taped it together and
cut out the design using cardstock paper.
Then the fun part began.
***so far, the project was practically free
(minus ink fro printer and paper)***
I found this flexible chopping mats at the $tree.
The package comes with 2 in it, making it .50 each.
I cut out the design with an x-acto knife,
and I went over it two time.
***I used a couple of flat cardboard boxes
to protect the work surface***
The first time to score the plastic, the second time to actually cut through it.

And here is how it came out.
She now has a reusable stencil for .50cents, that's a saving of $44.50

Stay Frugal,
Daniela

  1. That is amazingly CLEVER!!! Looking forward to seeing the wall when she's done!! I cannot even imagine a wall here at home that would 'empty' enough to stencil! HOWEVER - I AM going to paint our closet sliding doors! Now THAT'S a idea - I could stencil them!!

  3. Dearest Daniela,
Wow, using those chopping mats is such a clever idea! With some work but you make an awful lot of money per hour, compared to that $ 45.00 price tag.
You for sure have smiles coming down from heaven!

  4. GREAT job, Dani. WOW!!! That is labor intensive but LOOK at the savings. I like letter stenciling but I am like you---too much of a perfectionist to want to do a whole wall with stenciling a real "pattern". xo Diana
