This is a vintage map of an old map of the city I was born and raised.
The actual year of when this map was drawn is MDCCLXXXII aka 1782.
This is a vintage print of that map.
My parents have given this to me years ago. They actually have the same print map framed and hanging in
their living room.
It has been there as long as I remember.
I forgot I had one, until I was cleaning and organizing our school room closet, and found it all rolled up in a corner.
Now I need to make a frame for it.
I am leaning toward something similar to this,
Italy Map Frame |
since it will be in the same room, and I love the rustic look of it.
Pallet frame |
But I am not opposed to make something a little different
(just not to ornate...it's just not me).
What do you suggest?
Stay Frugal,
ReplyDeletethanks a beautiful map Daniella. Love that you framed it.
Dearest Daniela,
ReplyDeleteNo matter what you choose, this special, one of a kind vintage map needs to be preserved in the best way possible. The frame is your choice and it is not about the frame but an extraordinary map!
Hugs,
Mariette
Hmm...I think simple and rustic will let the map be the focal point. And i'm sure anything you do will look fabulous.
ReplyDeleteThat is one gorgeous map print. I agree that something simple would work best, let the artwork speak for itself and receive all the attention.
ReplyDeleteNo matter what you do with it you can't go wrong. What a great old piece. How about just a simple black skinny frame around it? Something so the map gets the glory and not the frame? xo Diana
ReplyDeleteOld maps have such great color in them! If it were me, I'd make a pallet frame and use a colored stain that brought out one of the gorgeous colors in the map. (That's just me..because I have a lot of pallets.)
ReplyDeleteI think that map is great! I live the look of maps on the wall. Yours is better though since it has special meaning to you. The kind if frame you use may depend on where you plan on hanging it.
ReplyDeleteI love this map, it would be gorgeous decoupaged to a table top.
ReplyDeleteWhat are your plans for it?
What a beautiful map! I have to show this post to my daughter. She is an Archaeologist and maps are her weakness. :) Great post!
ReplyDeleteI love the look of maps in interior design and my daughter is super into maps and atlas. In fact, I am making her a quilt for her bed with some old timey looking maps. fun!
ReplyDeleteSo cool!! We have a huge vintage pull-down map over our couch, but it doesn't have special meaning like yours does. I really like the pallet frame! :)
ReplyDeleteSusan
It's gorgeous Dani - pallet frame for sure........
ReplyDeleteNOW, am I going crazy or do I remember you having a map in that exact same spot quite a mile ago?
Was it a different map?

Daniela, I am over joyed with a beautiful visit from you, I love seeing newer faces and all they create and inspire.
ReplyDeleteLove the map and so would like to find that perfect one for me! It's such a fashion statement in our homes to hang maps, you should hang yours as your parents did. Love the old world feel to it, so much more interesting than an old California map where I was born lol! :)
Thank you dearly for gracing your beauty over at my place allowing me to share and hopefully inspire a linen lamp shade in your future works.
See you soon
Xx

Daniela, thank you for commenting about my Venice post today. How wonderful to be born and raised in Italy. Your map is wonderful, I enlarged and framed a print of Pisa last month in an old window frame from a print we purchased when we were there. Do you're parents still live there?
ReplyDeleteAnn
This is a gorgeous map, and how wonderful that your parents gave it to you. I like to sometimes mix in a little modern too, maybe a thin copper painted frame...xo
