How to clean a pallet

I love pallets.
When I get "new" ones, I usually leave them outside to naturally age the wood.

I am in the process of making shelves for our laundry room,
so I went outside to cut down the pallet I choose for my project.

Every time, before using pallet wood,
I like to clean them up really good.

All I use is white vinegar and a scrub.
First I wet the wood with water,
then I generously pour vinegar and start scrubbing like it's going out of style.

After the scrubbing is done, I spray a little more water to wash it off,
then let them dry in the sun.

Keep in mind that once they dry off,
the color of the wood will go back to the original weathered look.

Now I am ready to proceed with my shelves' creation.
I love when I get to do
"fun and free" projects.

Stay Frugal,
Daniela

  4. I agree. White vinegar is a great cleaner. It also takes the wax off furniture, and it's great, because it is not dangerous. xoxo Su

  5. It's always a great idea to recycle what you have whenever you can. I know you do that well! Can't wait to see the shelves once they're installed.

  7. I have thought of using pallets for projects (who hasn't at this point lol) but I've read some things about how they can be difficult to work with i.e., taking them apart. Clearly you've got it down! Can't wait to see the shelves. xo Kathleen

  8. I often use vinegar as well to clean... pretty much everything. Black soap is also great on old wood.
