I love pallets.
When I get "new" ones, I usually leave them outside to naturally age the wood.
I am in the process of making shelves for our laundry room,
so I went outside to cut down the pallet I choose for my project.
Every time, before using pallet wood,
First I wet the wood with water,
then I generously pour vinegar and start scrubbing like it's going out of style.
After the scrubbing is done, I spray a little more water to wash it off,
then let them dry in the sun.
Keep in mind that once they dry off,
the color of the wood will go back to the original weathered look.
Now I am ready to proceed with my shelves' creation.

I love when I get to do
"fun and free" projects.

Love the aged wood. Can't wait to see the reveal.
ReplyDeleteHi Dani- Nice to catch up with you for a bit. You will do a smash up job on those shelves, I am sure. Hope you have a great weekend. xo Diana
ReplyDeleteDearest Daniela,
ReplyDeleteThat looks like a very effective way to clean those pallets.
Love to work with scrubs and also with vinegar.
Happy weekend and looking forward to your next post!
Hugs,
Mariette
I agree. White vinegar is a great cleaner. It also takes the wax off furniture, and it's great, because it is not dangerous. xoxo Su
ReplyDeleteIt's always a great idea to recycle what you have whenever you can. I know you do that well! Can't wait to see the shelves once they're installed.
ReplyDeleteWe use a lot of white vinegar as well. I think it works great.
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to see what is next with the pallets.
I have thought of using pallets for projects (who hasn't at this point lol) but I've read some things about how they can be difficult to work with i.e., taking them apart. Clearly you've got it down! Can't wait to see the shelves. xo Kathleen
ReplyDeleteI often use vinegar as well to clean... pretty much everything. Black soap is also great on old wood.
ReplyDeleteAwesome post! I use vinegar to clean old wood too!
