After much deliberation,
my husband and I have decided to turn our garage into a rec room.
Lots of different reasons.
I know there are different opinions on
"garage or not garage".
I get it.
Although the garage door openings will not be closed up with a wall.
I am planning on replacing the overhead doors,
with true carriage style doors,
aka that swing out.
That will give us the option of converting the garage back if we ever want to.
I know those carriage style doors are neither cheap nor frugal,
but I am planning on building it.
So it's all good.
Can't wait to start.

So here how our 500sq feet looks like right
now.
Pretty nice huh?
Don't be jealous...
I actually already took the fiberglass insulation down and the styrofoam panels.
I also took down the wall of pegboards...
Imagine peg board covering the entire wall.
not sure how much pegboard a person need.
Anyway.
This space is going to need a lot of love.
We are also planning on taking care of our laundry corner,
turning this into a separate space within the room.
Just fiy,
the garage didn't look this messy before demo started,
and we actually parked the cars in there.
So lots of going on.
I have set a budget of less than $2000 which includes
building materials and furnishing.
I will show you my "magic" along the way.
This is going to be our Summer long project.
For the warmer months, we have added UV sail shades under our carport pergola.
Just keeping it cool!
So follow along.
Lot's of fun stuff happening soon.
Stay Frugal,
Daniela
I love this project, and I love your ideas for the doors. It's a lot like our porch and carport projects, and I think your budget is reasonable, because you are going to build the doors. Doors were the most expensive item. I also like that it won't be an expense to change it back, and a laundry room/area will be appealing. Our sleeping porch was missing the windows, so the laundry was outside, and it was horrible due to desert dust. Is your space connected to the house? I look forward to the progress.
