How to clean a butcher block (3 ingredients natural cleaner)

When it comes to cleaning,
I am all about natural products.
They are better for us and better for the environment.
Especially when it comes to clean surfaces like wood,
you want to make sure you use natural product,
as the wood is porous and will absorb the chemicals.
This is what you need:
a clean cloth
baking soda
white vinegar
a lemon or straight lemon juice
The vinegar and the lemon are antibacterial.
The baking soda will remove odors and stain.

First of all mix a little water with your vinegar,
but you could even just use straight vinegar.
The cut your lemon in half and dip in baking soda.
Use it to scrub the butcher block, back and forth.
If using straight lemon juice,
add the juice to baking soda until you have a paste
(toothpaste consistency).

When done,
use vinegar/water mix to rinse.

Let air dry.

And you are ready to use it!

Stay Frugal,
Daniela

  3. I have heard about this method before. I don't use wooden cutting boards though for that reason. I prefer to use my dishwasher to sanitize my cutting boards, so I use the plastic kind that you can put in the dishwasher. I do have one large wooden cutting board though that I use to cut cooked meat on and then I just wash it with soapy water. I can see how using a butcher block could really use the lemon, vinegar and baking soda technique well though.

  4. I have heard the lemon/soda thing, but not with added vinegar. More acid is better, I'll bet.
