Desk Makeover: paint, stain and dropcloth

I bet you have some piece of furniture that you have moved around your house plenty of times, and that you have used it with a different purpose.
Well, here is mine.
This desk was passed down to my husband by his father.
We used it as a desk for a couple of years, it had a dark stain to it.
Then baby #1 came along and we needed a changing table.
So I sanded the desk to the bare wood (minus
some stain left in the crevices) and gave it a clear coat a polyurethane.
Now, I was ready to use this again as a desk, my desk.
I painted it white, leaving the dark stain in the crevices.
For the top I wanted to do something unusual, so I measured, cut and sew a piece of dropcloth and (after ironing it) added to the top wood piece.

I used hot glue to attach it to all four sides.
And here it is.
***for dusting, I just use a hand vacuum***

Stay Frugal,
Daniela

  11. What a clever idea for the top of the desk.

Yes, I too have pieces that have been in every single room in the house. One of those pieces is now on the patio. Who knows where it will go next?
