I bet you have some piece of furniture that you have moved around your house plenty of times, and that you have used it with a different purpose.
Well, here is mine.
We used it as a desk for a couple of years, it had a dark stain to it.
Then baby #1 came along and we needed a changing table.
So I sanded the desk to the bare wood (minus
some stain left in the crevices) and gave it a clear coat a polyurethane.

Now, I was ready to use this again as a desk, my desk.
I painted it white, leaving the dark stain in the crevices.
For the top I wanted to do something unusual, so I measured, cut and sew a piece of dropcloth and (after ironing it) added to the top wood piece.
I used hot glue to attach it to all four sides.

Oh wow. This desk has had a few lives, huh? I love the latest transformation. I wouldn't have thought to add a drop cloth to the top but it looks lovely.
