Three years ago today

Three years ago, our city was flooded.
source
Our basement took quite a bit of water in, and we were left with a big mess.
The basement had to be emptied out, and
stripped to the bare bones.
Slowly we worked on the 500sq ft room.

It has now been our Master Bedroom for 2 years.
Every time I hear
"Here comes the sun" by The Beetles,
I can't help by thinking about
May 1st (and 2nd) 2010.
It reminds me that what the devil intended for evil, God turned it into a blessing.

To remodel the entire basement (decor included) and add a full bath,
we spent less than $4000 total,
and countless hours of work.

Stay Frugal,
Daniela

  1. It is nice when things are a blessing in disguise like that. Now you have extra square footage of living space and not just storage space! Still, I would hate to deal with a flooded basement.

  2. Your remodel looks amazing. I bet it was an overwhelming feeling to see all that water, but you guys certainly made the best of it. I like stories like this one.

  3. Dearest Daniela,
You did a terrific job! Pieter's best friend in The Netherlands bought a house that had been flooded by the river Meuse. He thought it would only happen once every century... But the next year he had to face it again. Water can be a real enemy and it takes quite some work!
    Hugs to you,

  7. Love how you relate it to Joseph's story! (That's a favorite.) I love your space - you'd never know what it looked like 3 years ago!

  8. It is a v.e.r.y. nice room now. I have never been in a flood, hope never to go through that. Having a flooded basement was enough. And apparently God wanted it for the good. He does things like that all the time and so seldom does it get appreciated. Great work.

  10. I always loved that verse that said what Joseph's brothers intended for evil, God meant for good. I'm so glad you turned your flooded mess into something beautiful. Is that Nashville? Amazing all that you accomplished. I'm sorry that happened to you, but I bet that room wasn't the only blessing you got along the way as you recovered. Very cool!
