I have been in a sewing kick since the beginning of the year...which is good, because I am getting a lot of projects done.
So today cloth napkins it is.
I had bought some fabric a while back, and decided to use the 100% white cotton one to make some napkins.
I had made napkins before, but this are
a larger size, perfect for when we have guest over or just as everyday messy meals.
Yes, we use cloth napkins at every meal. I grew up that way.
Cloth napkins are not only Eco-friendly, but clean up those messy mouths and fingers a whole lot better.
I cut the fabric in 21"x21" squares.
That will make a 20"x20" napkin when all said and done.
To the right bottom corner I added:
1914
PARIS
Then again, I don't know how to transfer words on fabric, for me it's easier to just write on it with a fabric marker and heat set with hot iron. I do find my inspiration from the Internet (The Graphic Fairy being one of them), but then I end up doing my own version.
After heat setting the ink,
wash, dry, use and repeat.
Stay Frugal,
Daniela
***I made 2 extra sets of 4 that I just added to my Etsy shop***

I like the weight fabric you used. I made some and stenciled numbers on them, but the fabric was too thin.
ReplyDeleteWe also eat with cloth napkins every night. In addition to being better for the environment, I think it sets a tone at the table and makes the meal seem like a special event.
Love the texture of that fabric and your lettering is always so neat.
ReplyDeleteSuch a simple and beautiful idea! Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful idea! They look so pretty! We also grew up using cloth napkins every day. Love, love what you did with yours. Very elegant!

ReplyDeleteGorgeous!!! Dani I love your sewing kick, please don't stop :)

Daniela, they look perfect! You have mad skills and such high standards. Of course, wiping spaghetti off tiny little mouths with those sort of makes me cringe...I'd opt for a paper napkin, and save those for adults!

These are really great. I have thought for years that I would make some cloth napkins but I haven't done it. Some I don't like cause they seem to just smear the food and grease around. How do I choose the best fabric that will work really well?
ReplyDeleteVery elegant! Thanks for linking up at One Creative Weekend! Enjoy your weekend.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful. And I love that you use cloth napkins at every meal. We really should make the transition in our home.
ReplyDeleteAnd I am amazed that those were freehanded. You have perfect penmanship. :)
