On December 10, 2013, we started our sunroom addition.
This is what looked like then.
It has now been a year, and this is how it
looks now.
Sunroom Project
and finally our new storage area.
Project below.
Here some pictures.
We decided to use concrete pavers instead of pouring concrete.
The reason is because our house is on a slope, and the storage area is right next to our house.
We did not wanted to damage the foundation of our home.
By using concrete pavers,
we get the benefit of a clean (aka not muddy) floor and it helps the ground to dry out (air flow) by not having a large concrete area.
Same concepts for the walls.
I wanted to keep animals and bugs out as much as possible, therefore using a layer of the screen.
Also I wanted people not to be able to see inside the storage area, hence using the black landscaping fabric. Finally, using a heavy duty clear plastic liner (allowing natural light during the day) to keep the cold wind out during the Winter.
The sheet of plastic is attached at the top, allowing to be folded up during the hot months, when we would need airflow under the sunroom to keep it from heating up.
There you go, I explained all my logic for using the material we used.
Keep in mind that our storage is inside a fenced area, with 2 medium-large dogs and we keep all 3 gates locked at all times.
So security is not an issue. lol
And this was our final cost
(price of material includes taxes)
16"x16" Concrete pavers (90) $300
Wood for sides and doors $80
Heavy plastic sheet $9
Landscaping fabric 2 rolls $4 (was a closeout a few years back)
1 roll of screen/mesh $15
wood stain/paint (leftover from painting the decks)
Total of $408 for a 12'x14' storage area
ps It just happened that I had a long strip of heavy duty liner leftover that fit perfectly under our deck stairs.
A few staples and now we have an instant "carport" for all the outdoor riding toys the kids have.
Easy access for them and keeps the rain off.
Stay Frugal,
Daniela
That was so well thought out, Dani. You did a wonderful job bringing your vision to life. I love how functional it is and it still looks nice, too. GREAT job! xo Diana
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea you came up with. Not only does your storage area keep your foundation and the floor of your addition protected from the cold but it saved your yard from having a structure built in it and taking up lots of space you could use for other things.
ReplyDeleteWay to go! Everything turned out just perfectly. I love the way that you have used up all the spaces - so efficient! Enjoy. :-)
ReplyDeleteGreat project, start to finish! Looks great but is uber functional, too. I would have loved to have an outside storage space for my kids "riding" toys when they were little.

ReplyDeleteYou never cease to amaze me! This is awesome. The pavers are great, and I love your thought process and reasoning behind everything! I am sure you are loving it!
ReplyDeleteI like your carport for misc kid stuff. I definitely think I need that vs. just hanging out in my back yard.
ReplyDeleteLove your storage area. You guys have done so much work. Looks wonderful!
