We all know that sugar is not got good for us.
But do you know why it's not good?
At the bottom of this post I have a list of reasons why sugar should be avoided or eliminated.
Right now, let me show you how easy it is to substitute white sugar in recipes.
my (and your) reference.
I am an agave and honey user
(as much as I can).
And here some of the dangers of
consuming white sugar:
Promotes wrinkling and aging skin
Makes your blood acidic
Can lead to osteoporosis
Rots your teeth
Raises your blood sugar level
Contributes to obesity
Is addictive (almost as much as drugs)
Can create the urge to binge
Provides 'empty calories' with no nutritional value
Contributes to diabetes
Robs your body of minerals
Robs you of energy
Feeds cancer cells
Contributes to adrenal fatigue
Suppress your immune system
Weakens eyesight
Can cause hypoglycemia
(low blood sugar levels)
Stay Frugal,
Daniela
I a big fan of Agave Nectar, use it in my black bean brownies and oatmeal muffins.

I don't use much sugar for myself anymore. It really is not good for you at all. xo Diana
ReplyDeleteWhat a timely post! I decided to do a week of clean eating to try and get myself back on track. Sugar is the devil!!

I really need to do better in this department. I have agave and honey, but use them mostly for sweetening my drinks. I need to look more into cutting back sugars in baked goods as well. Thanks!
ReplyDeletep.s. I got a free sample of coconut sugar that I want to give a try.
I need to do better in this area too. Thank you for the tips.
ReplyDeleteHoney is a favorite of mine to use as a replacement.I just need to get into the habit of doing it for baking.
Your the first blogger I've read that mentions that sugar causes glycation, hence not just wrinkles, but heart problems. I think just knowing it promotes wrinkles would get most people to quit. Vanity so often seems to trump health! :) I'm glad I've never been a sugar consumer...just hoping those wrinkles don't catch up with me.
ReplyDeletegreat info on how to substitute in recipes. I've found though that I just don't care for desserts I've had that are made with other things besides sugar. So far I've never found one that was worth the calories to eat. maybe the people who made them didn't know to change more than just the amount of sweetener - I may just try some of these!
ReplyDeleteDearest Daniela,
ReplyDeleteGood for you to post about this enemy as a matter of fact, it is true what I wrote in 2012 about: {SUGAR is your #1 enemy!} http://mariettesbacktobasics.blogspot.com/2012/05/sugar-is-your-1-enemy.html
For tonight I had made a big pot of soup and coleslaw salad for our Church. Trader Joe's eggfree mayonnaise with brown rice vinegar and some agave nectar, diced mango and dried cranberries with Chia seeds I made the dressing of. They LOVED it and it is healthy too.
People also should realize that over cooked pasta has the same effect as sugar. It becomes an easy degradable starch that will be transformed into sugar.
Thanks for sharing your post!
Hugs,
Mariette
sugar is evil. sigh. It's too bad I love it so. I am working to reduce it from my diet and my family's.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the chart, that will be handy. And this is such good info for so many trying to be healthier. I can't eat sugar. I have some kind of reaction to it so I don't have a choice. I use Stevia but only a sparingly. Once you go off sugar, it gets easier and you don't really miss it. Good post!
ReplyDeleteOh dear! I have been cutting down my sugar intake for sure, but I still have a lot to work on! Thanks for the reminder.
ReplyDeleteI use organic coconut palm sugar most of the time. I sometimes use organic raw honey and maple syrup.
ReplyDeleteDid you know agave nectar is worse than high fructose corn syrup?
