Sunroom construction update

The construction began on December 9,
exactly a month ago.
We actually signed the contract back in October and were given a 2 months waiting period.
But they were supposed to finish everything before Christmas.
Obviously that didn't happen.
In this past month (31 days)

they only worked on our project 8 days total...
they took off 2 weeks for Christmas/holidays vacation,
and then the cold blast and the rain who supposely will be here again tomorrow.
All the material is getting wet, waiting for the day they will decide to show up again.

Yes, the project manager does not even call us to let us know they won't be coming.
I like the workers,
they are nice and work hard.
We used this company before for two minor projects,
and were very pleased with them.
Then, after we signed the contract on this project, the company had a "reorganization",
and now it seems like they can't finish the job.
Not to mention that when they will be done with their part,
we will have to do some other things ourselves, like installing the floor, painting and few other finishing jobs.
I am just ready for this to be done...
maybe, just maybe they will come tomorrow...

Stay Frugal,
Daniela

  1. Oh you poor thing. I know how much of a DIYer you are so to have hired out the job and be at the mercy of someone else...who apparently isn't prioritizing you, must be really difficult. Fingers crossed tomorrow your workers come back.

  2. I'm so sorry. I hope it is just the awful weather causing delays.

  4. That must be very frustrating! I know that this time of year, the weather can cause delays though. Hopefully, you have some leverage with them by holding back some money until they come out and finish the job!

  5. I am so sorry Daniela! That is so FRUSTRATING! I just don't understand how people can be so dishonest, what a way to run a business. Sounds like the reorganization, was a bad move. I hope that it all works out and they will get it done quickly, and I hope you get some warmer weather! Best wishes!

  6. So sorry about your project, maybe they will come soon. I would be on the phone asking to speak to the owner and letting him know how unhappy you are. Maybe, then they will get cracking.
    Good luck.

  8. Daniela, I had hoped you were going to be showing your completed sunroom. How very unprofessional of them on this job. I hope they return to work soon and finish what they promised.

  9. Bummer :( I hate it when the people you think you can count on don't come through - especially when you are paying them!! Hope they get there soon and get their part done - keep bugging them, the squeaky wheels get oiled!

  11. I hope they come soon! How frustrating for you. I hope they do a good job, most of all.

  12. We are in almost the same situation as you. We signed the contract on our new home with the promise that everything would be finished in the next few weeks. We are now into month two with nothing done. We are getting ready to make calls to the top management team of this national homebuilding company. I never envisioned decorating my home with painter's tape...so that the builders can see what needs repair! Very frustrating. I feel your pain.

  13. I had guys working on my tile roof in very cold weather the day before Thanksgiving and back the day after to finish. I said wait til the weather is better and they said so long as it's not slippery or unsafe they'll be there. The owner of the company and project manager were great and i think that's the difference.
I've been where you are with these folks...I wish you luck and patience. The problem is when you hold back money they slap a lien on your property and you have to waste time going to court. Make me so angry thinking about this. It's best to just go with the flow, but be persistent! It will get done. Looking good so far. CD

  15. Dearest Daniela,
Oh girl, I know this feeling too well; the big un-knowd factor of WHEN it will be ready to finish and clean up and start living in or with it...
As my best friend Rebecca always says: 'Don't forget; we all live on somebody else's watch.' So true as it seldom goes according to our planning; we depend on others!
May it be soon that this comes to an end. I'm also hoping that soon my Pieter will be out of hard back breaking work and we can enjoy life together as a team. We depend now on others as well, for pouring concrete. Of course with severe frost it could not be done but today was perfect and no sign from them...
    Hugs,
    Mariette

  16. I hope they show up today! So frustrating. I'm still waiting on windows and a furnace before I can move forward. Not lovin this weather for sure. Good luck and you know that like all projects...one day it will just all be done!

  17. What a frustrating situation. Have you complained to the right person? I had a nightmare situation with my kitchen and I was wayyyyyy too nice and I ended up being taken advantage of, because I was trying to be 'nice'...I'm sure you're doing everything you can but sometimes you have to make noise! So sorry you have to go through this, I'm sure the weather is not helping. Keep us posted,
    Leslie

  18. Well crap. I feel your pain. I don't think I've ever come across someone with a contractor who actually did as they promised. So frustrating!!! Best of luck. I hope they come back and finish soon!!!

  19. Oh no!! I have lived this reality and it is not fun. Keep on them. These guys seem to get so many different projects going at the same time which in my opinion is often the problem. Of course the weather does not help.
Fingers crossed that this gets sorted out soon. :)

  20. I hope that you didn't pay them in full! I'd make a visit to their office and find out what's going on, nothing like showing you face to get some answers. My big concern for you is the wet material. Not only can that shrink when it starts to dry which can greatly affect your finish project, buckling shrinking walls. I'd also be afraid for mold. I had a brand new house and had toxic mold. Find out that they used wet material and the tyvac kept it from drying. We lost everything including the house as insurance does not pay for this, anywhere in the US. Good Luck!!
