This kitchen light project was long overdue.
A long ago few months ago I went to a flea market here in town, and I bought a little something that I wanted to use in my kitchen as a pendant light above the sink.
See,
this is what I had for a long time.
It came with the house.
Beside the fact that it wasn't a beauty to look at, the really annoying thing was the constant buzzing sound from the time you turned it one, to the time you turned it off.
So, back to the flea market finds, this is what I was going to use as a
pendant.
But turned out to be a little too big for my space, and decided to use that in another project. (which I will share later this week)
Back to square one.
I had bought a pendant light kit to use with the above find, but now needed something different.
Literally two seconds, I looked up
(I always find my inspiration from above)
and saw what it was hanging from my pot rack.
Most people use that for this.
I used it for this.
I could not believe how perfectly it fit.
I did not have to cut or bend the bottom of the basket, just removed the handle.
I changed and installed the new electrical part,
and this is the final project.
The old egg basket only cost me $1.
As I was doing dishes tonight,
I did not dread the infamous buzzing.
Stay Frugal,
Daniela

That looks so awesome! What a fabulous idea!
ReplyDeleteLove this, Daniela! Very creative, and wonderful style!

Great idea, Dani! You are clever and it so sooo much better than a "buzzing" light- xo Diana
ReplyDeleteYou are so creative to think of that. A clear light bulb would look good in it too. Love how that turned out!
ReplyDeleteMa quanti lavori sai fare! Bravissima! Buona Domenica
ReplyDeleteDearest Daniela,
ReplyDeleteOh, such buzzing fluorescent lights can be so annoying; we used to have them before as well. You solved this problem perfectly and easy.
Enjoy this calm and bright work environment!
Hugs,
Mariette
I absolutely LOVE this idea Dani, you are so creative :) xo
ReplyDeleteI love this! I saw some HUGE wire things this shape at the Country Living Fair yesterday. I thought they would make cool lights for some HUGE room!
ReplyDeleteWhat an improvement! SO creative!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE this!! How creative are you.

Very cute. I've also seen these covered with burlap or another open mesh fabric for a charming look with a bit softer light. A great source for vintage looking fabric covered wire for pendant lamps is sundialwire.com. They make all the wire that's on the web. Super nice to deal with as well.
ReplyDeleteThat looks good. Yea, that other one is huge.
ReplyDeleteLooks great!
ReplyDeleteThis looks great!
ReplyDeleteNow what will you do with the other light?

An egg basket pendant light - clever. I do love the one you bought at the flea market too.
ReplyDeleteWho thought of fluorescent lights to begin with? Does anyone like them? Your new kitchen light fixture is so much nicer!
ReplyDeleteJudith
It is super super cute! You are so awesome, I am glad you got it figured out and I can't wait to see where you put the first one!
ReplyDeleteGood Evening Daniela, Well I never, what a fabulous use for an egg basket. You are so good at looking at items with a "different eye" and it only cost $1. Normally light fittings cost so much more.
ReplyDeleteNow then, I wonder what you did with your first thought for a light fitting.... I know I will never be able to guess.
Best Wishes
Daphne
Oh that is fabulous and I love it! I have a lot of respect for electricity and people who mess with it. Scares me to death!
ReplyDeleteDaniela, I love how easy that looked to create. I hate those fluorescent tubes the buzzing gives me headaches. Now the funny thing about your light fixture is that I saw this done on Pinterest and was going to add it to one of my posts on upcycling. Now I'll use your post instead as your pictures show just how easy it is to make this.
ReplyDeleteWow. That turned out so cool. It's like it was made to be a pendent light cover. Job well done!
ReplyDeleteNow this is a great project! I love the whole concept and it's so much prettier than the buzzing light. *wink*
ReplyDeleteYou know my mom would never let us use that light because she kept saying that the bulbs were too hard to replace. In my mind I kept thinking..."Mom, if you never turn on this light, sure you won't have to replace the bulb but you also can't see!" She still won't use that thing. Perhaps she needs a light kit and an egg basket. :-)
I love it! A pretty charm industrial look ;)
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to see how you use the other one.
Daniela, one word... AWESOME! What a great new light... and thanks for the equally as awesome tutorial!!!! This light would look great in my laundry room. Thanks for sharing at TUTORIALS TIPS AND TUTORIAL!
ReplyDeleteI am in LOVE with this.... It looks amazing and $1 - awesome!!!
