(and I just picked what I think will be our last tomatoes of the season...tonight the temperature should drop to 29 degrees)
I measured and cut the wood and started building.
Turned out that I only had a few inches left over...like 2 inches. Good thing I didn't mess up any cuts!
I nailed the wood to the bottom and top wood scraps,
then added the horizontal wood pieces and glued it with super glue.
Now I want to make more!
...and I probably will :)
This is obviously NOT a lantern to be used with real candles...but with little children I don't light candles that much,if any.
Few months back, I just happened to find two real wax candles
that are battery operated...they even flicker and have a 4 hour timer...$2 per candle, manager special at Kroger!

Good Evening Daniela, My word you are so talented, your ideas just keep on flowing. This is a wonderful idea and you created it so cheaply. I love the idea of the battery operated candles, especially as you have young children, the effect is lovely. Best Wishes Daphne
ReplyDeletethis is so cool. I can see this outside surrounded by christmas greenery and white lights too.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing.

Hi, This is for sure a very creative project. Great job...Connie
ReplyDeleteGreat project! The candle looks real - perfect for small children. I love how you made it with things you have on hand, too. And did you get to choose your affiliate ads? Lanterns! Perfect.

I love your "new" lantern! The feel of the old wood paired up with chicken wire, gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteGotta love those flameless candles! So safe and they give good light. Looks nice in your lantern, too.
ReplyDeleteJanet
Great deal on the candles, Daniela. I like the rustic lantern too. It will be fun to decorate for different seasons.
ReplyDeleteyou are so clever and I love this, its beauty is in its simplicity!
ReplyDeleteYou are good!! It looks great! Think of all the fun your going to have decorating them for the holidays!
ReplyDeleteNot only are you frugal but you are also SO creative. This is rustically beautiful.
ReplyDeleteSo cute! I also never light candles, but I always forget to turn off my flameless ones, the 4 hour timer is brilliant, wish we had a Kroger here, I should ask Trader Joes to sell them, then I could buy some:)
ReplyDeleteJessica
Very cute and most of all creative! They would look great in a grouping too. They would have big impact. Great farmhouse look too.
ReplyDeleteLove, love, love it!
ReplyDeleteNice work!
I love this candle lantern! Very nice!
ReplyDeleteReally cute, Dani. You are very creative and made good use of those materials- xo Diana
ReplyDeleteDaniela, What a great idea! You are quite accomplished with the tools! I think this is a great project. Although I am asking my husband to make a couple for me. Thanks for the great tutorial!
ReplyDeleteIt looks great with the chicken wire!
Please join us for TUTORIALS TIPS AND TIDBITS, my weekly linky party. Your project would be perfect to share! Linky goes live tonight (Wednesday) at 8:00 pm. Hope to see you there!
You've been cutting wood again! The large lantern looks nice and can be decorated in other ways too. Good idea!
ReplyDeleteNice job on the lantern.
ReplyDeleteWhat a neat lantern you created, Daniela--I love the chicken wire! So nice to hear from you at my blog today--glad you liked the homemade potato chips--I could eat a zillion of them:)
ReplyDeleteReally cute. I always look at the lanterns at stores like Pier 1 and I love them but can't justify that much money to just hold a candle. Your's are fantastic! Going to have to keep this is mind when spring comes and we can sit outside again.
ReplyDeleteYou a.m.a.z.e. me Daniela - that is so seriously beautiful - looks like something out of Restoration Hardware!!! Just loving it

Great job, your lantern is so cool - way to think out of the box. These would be cute in a grouping with a few different sizes or hanging.
ReplyDeleteLove this Daniela!

You are so creative! I love this and now I have to make myself one. lol. I'm really in to anything with chicken wire these days. Don't know why. Thanks for linking up at Transformed Tuesday. I'm featuring you on FB. Hugs Peggy
ReplyDeleteLoving your lanterns. I can see painting them like zinc and aging down the chicken wire before putting it in. You'd have a Restoration Hardware look-a-like for cheap.
ReplyDeleteJust found your blog and love it.
I've been thinking of making similar lanterns out of a bunch of those IKEA wood frames I have had stored. Just put five together with the top open and use for candles.
