Big impact mirror

I really needed something to hang behind
the toilet...on the wall behind it!
When you have a small space, one of the thing you can always turn to,
is adding a mirror.
I wanted more than just a mirror, more like a mirror-art-lightweight-high impact-low cost
kind of thing!
Here is what I have
Start with a sturdy box and cut a
rectangle out of it.

Then rip the backing + frame off the mirror
and glue the mirror in the center of the cardboard.
At first I played around with the shims, to find the kind of pattern I liked.
At this point the  shims are still not glued...

Then with wood glue, I added shims in "right-left" pattern, as shown here.

I am going to leave the wood "au naturel" for a few weeks days, and decide if I want to
stain it or paint it.
I like the character it has!
And you can't beat unique ;)

Cost of this project
mirror $1 ($Tree)
2 packs of shims $1.50 each
(or about 30 shims)
$4 total

Stay Frugal,
Daniela

  1. That is a very creative project. I don't believe I've ever seen that done before. It looks pretty large. I like the rustic nature of it.
