Behind this frugal makeover there is one common material: paintable textured wallpaper. Yes...I'll show you how great and versatile this product is.
With about $18 you get a roll of paintable textured wallpaper...this ain't your grandma's wallpaper :-)
Other materials you need is cans (cardboard or aluminum), boxes, books...anything that is ugly and/or needs a facelift.
Let me show you how I am using this around the house...
office overhead storage, covered paper boxes |
I used hot glue to attach the wallpaper to the boxes and cans.
pringles, grits containers hide children color pencils and markers |
you could even paint the cans or wrap sisal rope around it.
As far as aluminum cans, here some ideas.
Wrap twine around it...
storage for little things (q-tips, cotton balls, extra tea light candles) in our upstairs bathroom |
...or just use "as is", for your kitchen utensils. Yes, I know, I have quite a large amount of wooden spoons...what can I say, I am Italian, I like to cook!
kitchen utensils stored in coffee cans and juice cans |
You can also transform this #10 can...
into this, using...you guessed it, paintable wallpaper border
not sure where this will go |
Finally one more use of the amazing wallpaper
bookshelf |
Wrap your books for a neat and cohesive look. I also mixed in books wrapped in brown paper (using large paper grocery bags or lunch bags), and left some without wrapping if they were brown-ish, cream-ish, white-ish in color.
I think it really makes it stand out against the brick wall behind it!
Well, I think I am done...for now.
Your turn to gather your boxes, cans and books to give it a frugal makeover, and keep it out of the landfill!

ps. I only bought 1 roll of wallpaper and have plenty of it left over...it goes a long way
