What the baby industry wants you to think is that
baby food is hard to make, unless you got the right
(and expensive) gadget(s).
Wrong!
Baby food is as easy as it can be, and you don't need any special equipment to make it, or any fancy recipes.
If you have a pot and a food processor (or a blender), then you can make your own baby food.
Chop your veggies (remember to start one vegetable at the time and then you can mix a few adding meat/fish), and boil until is fully cooked (about 15-20 minutes).
You could also steam it if you have this inexpensive basket that fits in your pot.

(I prefer this way since steamed veggies retain more nutritional value)
Add water up to the bottom holes
After the vegetables are cooked,
Remember to keep some of the cooking water in the fridge, to be added as needed before meal is served.
Once the baby starts to eat more "textured-chunky" foods, then all you need is a pot and a fork to mash those veggies.
This is a very healthy way to feed your baby fresh, seasonal foods that you have selected and that have high nutritional value (since you can make it fresh as needed). This is a great way to make organic baby food at a fraction of the cost avoiding wasting collecting baby food jars.
Now,
hear me when I say that baby food jars are very helpful to grab and go and any last minute meals,
but I would rather much making my own...fresh, without adding any citric acid :-)
Finally very important that you DO NOT add any salt to the food, until baby is 12 months of age.
I am on my third baby doing this,
and they have allsurvived thrived!
and they have all
Stay frugal,
Daniela
I never understand why parents choose to spend so much money on baby food when homemade options are so much better. Great post Daniela!
