Bathroom remodel. From 1966 to 2012

I really like to see how much I can stretch our $$$, when we tackle a home improvement project.
In fact, I just like to stretch our $ for just about anything!

Anyway, our upstairs bathroom has paneling
(yes, welcome to the '60s)
and I have come to actually like painted paneling.
It adds a cottage feeling and charm to the room.

Updating wood paneling without replacing it, can be as easy as changing the color of your walls.
Yes, paint is all you need!
(our first paneling painting job was in our master bedroom)

This is how the bathroom looked before

And this is how it looks now

Yes, it is the same bathroom!

painted trim added to the mirrors

What I did was:

- strip the 3 layer of paint on the vanity cabinet down to the bare wood
- prime and paint cabinets
- prime and paint wood paneling  + trim and crown molding
(2 coats of primer and 2 coats of paint on everything)
- cut and paint trim for mirrors, just hours before
I delivered our third child (call it dedication or insanity!)
- new lights

All this was accomplished within the last 6 months,
a little at a time, during children naps and night

We did not replace counter, sinks/faucets, and cabinet knobs
after
before

Cost of this project:
primer and paint $18
mirror trim $19
2 new vanity lights $11 (combined store sales, coupon and small gift card)
vanity skirt $0 leftover drop cloth
we already owned all the accessories used in this bathroom

Total cost for this bathroom makeover
$48

Stay Frugal,
Daniela
