Are you tired yet to see what I make with wood scraps?
Most people just throw out wood scraps, give away through Craigslist or even just put on the side of the road.
(I have plenty myself from previous projects)
This to say, I never ever throw wood scraps away. Ever.
And I wanted to make this with my scraps...but for a slightly different use...
So, a couple of days ago, RN got home and I simple announced: I am going outside to cut some wood.
Bless his heart, he just smiles...he knows nothing makes me happy more than cutting wood and build things.
For that I love him even more!
So here I cut down two pieces of wood (that have the same thickness 3/4") to the same length.
And cut the smaller strips for the "feet"
Liquid nails to attached the pieces of wood.
And here is what I painted this with.
Why?
Because not only I want this to be a decorative rustic table centerpiece,
but I need this to be a large trivet, to be used during dinner.
We serve food "Italian family style".
This project cost me nothing,
as we already had the paint and the scraps.
I did consider painting the wood centerpiece with chalkboard paint, so I could write a message on it, but since we had the high heat spray paint, I opted for that, as it will be a better option for holding hot pans.

What a great idea! I like that you have something that adds interest to the table AND serves a purpose. I didn't know you were so handy with wood and power tools! You go girl!! ha! I'm a big scaredy cat with power tools. So, I have to rely on Jimmy to do that stuff.
Me, too. Saws are scary to me! I need all my fingers. BUT - when I see someone like you make something cool, I think about it. And I also think "I wish we were neighbors so I might be invited to enjoy some of the great Italian food that will sit on that great trivet..." Of course, I would always be there for you to borrow a cup of something. :) -Revi
cool idea...so jealous you can just go out there and cut wood when you have an idea...me - I get the hubby to do jobs like that...keeps him busy
Hey Dani, That's one of the things I like the most about your blog, The wood projects! you know I also love to work with wood! I used to throw away little pieces of wood, but not anymore, you never know when you need a little tiny piece. Can't wait to see the trivet's full reveal!
You tease :). From what I can glimpse, your scrap wood project turned out great. I adore any woman that can confidently go cut her own wood. You are one impressive woman.
Daniela, you are a true artist. Who would have thought? I admire your ability to 'see' something from nothing (well, scraps of wood)..Thanks for sharing,
Leslie (aka Gwen Moss)
Fantastic idea! Can't wait to see how you decorated. Love the black too.
Daniela,
We save woods scraps at our house too. I love your trivet!!! I'm sure it will get a lot of use.

Aren't you a creative soul! I love that! I'm wondering how fast I can make one! Thanks for the inspiration!Your newest follower! Traci
There is a house that is being gutted on our street and the owner said I could take whatever scraps they threw out. I missed the waste management truck picking up the dumpster today! On Saturday! It was loaded with wonderful scraps. Then I come to see you and what do you have!?! A post on using wood scraps! I am pinning this so my husband will understand there are others who covet wood scraps.
Wow I'm so impressed with you using power tools!!! I'm terrified of them lol,
Can't wait to see the final pics - it looks great from the sneak pic
Hugs,
Suzan
Daniela, You are so talented, I wouldn't have the nerve to use the electrical equipment that you use. I shall just have to watch and admire from afar. Have a lovely day. Daphne
